JD(S) to protest against erratic power supply

Last Updated 04 August 2009, 16:58 IST

Addressing the mediapersons here on Tuesday, legislator K P Bachegowda said, the people of the district are suffering on account of erratic power supply. The farmers who totally depend on the ground water are also in problem. But Chief Minister Yeddyurappa and Power Minister Eshwarappa are creating confusions in farmers by giving contradictory statements. As a mark of protest, the party will gherao the  Bescom office on Wednesday.

Alleging step-motherly attitude in disbursal of various grants by the government, he said that, it has failed to distribute grants equally to constituencies represented by opposition party legislators, as a result of which the progress of the his constituency is hindered.

He also demanded to declare Chikkaballapur as the backward district. Chikkaballapur has been left out of the ambit of Nanjundappa Committee only on the sighting few farms on the highway. This is unscientific as parts of  Mandikal, Poshettyhalli, Ketenahalli are still backward. Taking this into consideration government should declare Chikkaballapur as backward district, he demanded.

Government has developed cold feet to constitute a House committee for inquiring into the irregularities committed by Krishnaiah Setty. It is reluctant to concede the demand, put forth in both the Houses, with the fear that the government stands to be exposed by the inquiry. There is a need for a thorough probe into the episode, he said.

ISKON controversy

The government is also not ready to order a House Committee inquiry over allegations of ISKON collecting money in foreign countries by showing the photographs of children having mid-day meal in schools.  Mid-day meal is a scheme funded by the government. Yeddyurappa, obviously is haunted by the fear that the government will not survive if true facts come out. K M Muniyappa, KOMUL director K V Nagaraju, CMC president M Prakash,  K T Narayanaswamy and others were present.
