Grandparents Day

Affectionately yours Kids and their grandparents at the Grandparents Day. DH photo Saturday was observed as Grandparent’s Day by Vani Educational Institutions, which took the initiative to involve the elderly who are usually neglected.

More than 150 grandfathers and grandmothers witnessed their little grandchildren perform before them. Narayan Swamy’s grand child studies in grade one in the school. For Swamy, aged 71, this was the first time that a whole event was centred around and dedicated to people of his age.

R H Vani, Principal of Vani High School said that such an event was conducted in 2009 but the response was greater this time. “Today’s children can do what their grandparents could not do,” she added.

The chief guest for the event was renowned dancer Vyjayanthi Kashi. She felt that the event was different from the routine and monotonous high profile functions that usually take place in the city.

Secretary of Vani Institutions, Sharada Prasad said that he will ensure the occasion is celebrated every year. With games and competitions for the elderly and speeches by children as young as five years, the event turned out to be a pleasant one for all.
