Three killed in Russian helicopter crash

The helicopter crashed near the village of Billings, killing a crew member and two passengers, RIA Novosti news agency reported.

"It was on the inspection flight to check radio-navigation posts along the northern border of the Chukotka autonomous district.

While landing one of its engines failed, leading to the crash," an emergency situation official in Vladivostok said.

Medical assistance for the injured had been rushed and the police and investigators were working at the scene of the accident, the agency said.This is at least the third incident involving Mi-8 helicopters, widely used in the country's remote oil and gas extraction sites, in recent weeks.
