NCP to begin membership drive in region

 Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, Machaiah said that the membership campaign will continue at various places in three districts till the third week of August.

The election for the state committee of NCP, which was dissolved recently, will be held in the first week of September, she said adding that the membership campaign is being organised as part of the state committee election.  Clarifying party’s stand on acquisition of agricultural land for Special Economic Zones (SEZ), Machaiah said that NCP will not allow government to acquire farmland for hazardous industries. She said that a party delegation from the State will meet Union Minister for Agriculture Sharad Pawar in this regard. Party will also organise protest against the acquisition of agricultural land, she added. District unit president Steven Vincent D’Souza, leaders Hyderali and Srinivas were present.
