Congress ups the ante against BSY

Last Updated 25 July 2011, 16:45 IST

Participating in the ‘Congress Nadige Janara Balige’ programme in Kengeri on Monday, Congress leaders including KPCC president G Parameshwara, Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Assembly Siddaramaiah, AICC secretaries Madhusudan Mistry and Sanjay Nirupam demanded that the BJP high command should ask Yeddyurappa to step down.

Parameshwara said despite being involved in illegal mining and having “looted the State”, Yeddyurappa was refusing to tender his resignation. “In spite of being indicted in the Lokayukta report, Yeddyurappa continues to maintain he has not committed any crime and that he will complete his term.” He said if Yeddyurappa was not aware of the tapping of the telephones of Justice Santosh Hegde and Opposition leaders, he should initiate action against the officials who were responsible for it.

“But it is more than evident that Yeddyurappa himself is responsible for it. Otherwise, why would BJP spokesperson Dhananjaya Kumar try to influence the Lokayukta not to indict Yeddyurappa in the report? He was well aware that his name would figure in the Lokayukta report.”

Siddaramaiah said he had already prayed to Goddess Chamundeshwari for the fall of the BJP government in the State, and no matter how best Energy Minister Shobha Karandlaje prayed to the Goddess, her wish would not be granted. He also demanded an inquiry into the phone tapping allegation by Justice Hegde.
