Tahsildar suspended

Last Updated 26 July 2011, 18:55 IST

During the hearing of a petition filed by the residents of Kithaganur in KR Puram on allocation of land for a playground and a park, Tahsildar Putte Gowda submitted that the land the residents were asking for, had already been auctioned.

The tahsildar also submitted that there was an alternative piece of land available nearby.
The Division Bench headed by Chief Justice J S Khehar questioned him the distance between the alternative land and the auctioned land and the tahsildar replied that it was 1.5 km.

The Court then asked him whether he was sure about the distance and the tahsildar backed out and confessed that he was unsure as he had not seen the place. This made the Court furious and it lambasted the tahsildar for giving false statements.

Threatening to put him behind bars, the Court advised the government counsel to train them to answer questions properly. The tahsildar has been directed to submit an affidavit.

Kidnap case

The High Court  has directed the police to register a case of kidnap against a boy who allegedly eloped with a minor to Maharashtra.

Sudeep Shinde from Goa, had eloped with a 17-year-old girl from Chandra Layout, on July 8.

The girl’s parents lodged a complaint with the police, but the police did not trace the girl. The parents filed a habeas corpus petition and the girl was produced in the Court on Tuesday.

When Justice N Ananda and Justice V S Appa Rao asked the girl whether she wanted to go with her parents, the girl agreed.

The girl’s parents wanted to reconfirm, and requested the judge to question her again. This annoyed the Court and it questioned the parents why they had filed a habeas corpus petition, if they were reluctant to take their daughter home.

The Court also questioned the police why they did not bring the boy, when they had managed to trace the girl. Disposing of the case, the High Court directed the police to register a case of kidnap against Sudeep and arrest him.

The parents have been directed to file a complaint with the commissioner, if the police did not arrest the boy.
