Filmy twist to Telangana stir, shooting locations vandalised

Last Updated 31 July 2011, 18:20 IST

Furious over the delay in deciding on the separate statehood issue, Telangana campaigners on Sunday vandalised a few shooting locations in and around Hyderabad.
Even as the activists continued pressure on Telangana Congress MPs to remain firm on their resignations and not to attend the monsoon session of Parliament commencing Monday, they damaged a film set in Vikarabad near Hyderabad.

According to Ranga Reddy district police, hundreds of Telangana activists pelted the production crew with stones and vandalised the set after chasing them away.  Actors, including Mahesh Babu and  Samantha were left unhurt.

They were shooting for  ‘Dookudu’, a thriller from the house of 14reels Entertainment Pvt Ltd belonging to actor Krishna. The activists also threatened the film unit of dire consequences if they start shooting again. When Mahesh Babu, hero of “Dookudu”, which is getting ready for Deepavali release,   arrived at the location he was surrounded by hundreds of activists.

After pouring kerosene, the activists set the wooden make-shift furniture on fire.
A visibly-shaken actor, who even managed to sign some autographs for a few T fans, was given police protection to leave  the location.

Last year also, Telangana activists had halted film shootings and damaged the sets of several films on the eve of Deepavali, leaving films worth crores left unfinished as per schedule. In the last few months also,  shooting of “Seematapakai”, Junior NTR’s “Shakthiand Manchu” and  Manoj’s untitled movie were disrupted by activists.
A TRS leader defended the attack stating “more people are getting impatient over delay in Telangana announcement.”

Earlier this week, Telangana Congress MP Gutta Sukhender Reddy had averred that though the Congress government had promoted relocation of Telugu film industry from Chennai five decades ago, the costal Andhra investors had not made any contribution to the development of Telangana region.
