Another member of Koda ministry sent to judicial custody

The court of N N Singh sent him to 14 days judicial custody. Sahi's surrender came in the background of court's order to CBI to attach his property if he did not surrender by Monday.
A note to this effect was pasted on his premises.

The investigating agency had conducted raids on his premises and his property for about twenty times.

Sahi, who had been a health minister in the Koda government, is the fifth former minister to be sent in judicial custody in connection with alleged irregularities of funds.

Koda and his former ministers Kamlesh Singh, Enos Ekka and Harinarain Rai are already in judicial custody on corruption charges.

The CBI had lodged a case accusing Sahi and the then health secretary Pradeep Kumar of irregularities in the use of funds received under National Rural Heath Mission.

"They (Sahi and Kumar) are charged with allotting tenders to their favourite companies who had quoted more than genuine rates for medicines and medical apparatus," a senior CBI official said here.

"We expect former health secretary Pradeep Kumar to surrender on Monday," he added.
Sahi was a minister in the Koda cabinet for 23 months from September, 2006.

The vigilance bureau is also investigating separately into disproportionate assets case against him.
