NIE sets up Building Fire Research Centre

The National Institute of Engineering has set up the Building Fire Research Centre to cater to the needs of industry to study the behaviour of building materials under elevated temperature and also to test materials under actual fire. The centre would be chaired by H N Ramathirtha and N Suresh would be director.

The centre will have a facility to test portable fire extinguishers. It will, for the first time in India, conduct fire test to classify and asses the performance of extinguishers as per IS 15683 on August 8. The centre also has facilities for tapping test, crushing test and impact test.
