Change of guard at Siddaganga questioned

Last Updated 06 August 2011, 18:24 IST

Speaking to reporters at the court premises here on Saturday, Gaurishankar Swamy said the petition submitted by him on the succession issue on March 31, 1988, after he was expelled from the Siddaganga Mutt, was still pending in the court.

“The appointment of a successor is therefore a contempt of court,” Gaurishankar Swamy said.

Contempt of court

He added that public functions organised to celebrate the handing over of power will also be a contempt of court.

A new petition seeking an interim stay was filed in the second civil court, but was moved to the third civil court since the judge of the former court is away for a training.

The hearing of the petition has been scheduled for August 27.
