Karnataka to introduce policy on animation, gaming industry

"The country's first policy on animation and gaming will come out soon...," Karnataka State Principal Secretary to Information Technology Department M N Vidyashankar told reporters here.

He said the policy will be introduced considering huge growth opportunities of the animation and gaming industry. The policy is currently being drafted by the Association of Bangalore Animation Industry, he said, the animation industry constitutes 30 per cent Information Technology and 70 per cent creativity. "We (Government of Karnataka) will be the first to introduce a policy in the country on the animation and gaming," he said.

He said details about the policy would be discussed during the fourth edition of "Bangalore IT.biz"  slated to be held in Bangalore in October. The discussions on the policy would be taken to the Union IT and Telecommunication Ministry to be tabled in the Parliament.

Talking about the event he said this year they were expecting participation from 25 states across India focused on the theme "India Innovates". He said the three day event would comprise multi-track conferences, an International exhibition, a CEO conclave, IT Quiz for students.

Software Technology Parks of India (Bangalore and Chennai) Director J Parthasarathy said last time the number of small and medium enterprise companies participating from Tamil Nadu was 35 units. "This year, we are expecting it to take about 70 SME companies.. the objective is to give them a platform to interact with the government, corporates during the meet..", he said.
