Craft world

Srinidhi Arts and Crafts Foundation is organising Hasthanjali, a crafts santhe
at Chitrakala Parishat from August 19 to 28. It will have live demonstrations from ma­ster craftsmen. On sale w­ill be Tanjore paintings, cane and bamboo products, handcrafted saris, pure silk designer saris, dress materials, Ma­d­hubani paintings, wooden carvings etc. The exhibiti­on will be open from 10 am to 8 pm.  

Short films

An evening of short films by Shamiana will be held on August 11, 7 pm at Alliance Francaise. The films include ‘Black & White’, ‘Big Buck Bunny’, ‘Butterfly Circ­us’, ‘Baiano’, ‘Karaamat’, ‘Fr­ench Roast’ and ‘First Kiss’.
German course

Goethe-Institut/Max Mu­eller Bhavan is holdi­ng German language courses at Basavanagudi. Classes will be held at Institute of Foreign Language and Cult­u­re, 77, Vani Vilas Road, Basava­n­agudi. The course is Level A1. It will be held from August 22 to December 9. The duration is 15 weeks and the timing is 5.15 pm to 6.45 pm or 6.45 pm-8.15 pm. Handloom expo

Krishna Kadhi Gramdyog Sanstan Agra is organising the ‘National Art and Craft Handloom Expo’ at Karnataka Chitrakala Parishat, Kumara Krupa Road till August 14. The purp­ose behind organising such ex­position is to help the handicraft and handloom artisans reach out to the masses dir­e­ctly.


Pearson Schools is organising Tirangaa-2011 in celebration of the 65th Independence Day at Tattva School on August 11, 10.30 am. There will be contests based on the works of Tagore including a colouring competition based on impressions from his stories, wealth out of waste, recitation of his poems, story board illustrations,  paintings on nature inspired by Tagore and essay writing. The cultural programmes include a dance ballet and a fusion dance set to the music of Rabindra Sangeet, a collage on Tagore childhood, art, poetry, other writing during the freedom movement. The event is open for parents and children of all age groups from schools in the vicinity.

‘Nature Bazaar’

Dastkar is organising ‘Nature Bazaar’ at The Palace Grounds, Gayatri Vihar till August 14, 11 am to 8.30 pm. Over 100 craft groups from 19 states from across the country will be participating in the ‘Bazaar’, bringing with them a rich medley of handicrafts and handlooms. Organic food stuffs and herbal products like soaps and oils will also be part of it. This year, the key attraction will be the evening performances which include Rajasthani folk fusion music by ‘Rajasthani Roots’ and on August 14, there will be Chhau dance by Gopal Prasad Dubey and group. There will also be Rajasthani puppet show,
Kacchi Ghodi, Manipuri Dhol Cholam among other events.
