Cancel bus stand contract: Revanna

Termination of agreement demanded

Speaking at a press meet in Hassan on Wednesday, he said that the revenue department had laid several conditions while giving approval to the transport department for constructing a bus stand. The norms has been violated blatantly by handing over the land to a private concern.

The revenue department had allotted 23.2 acres of land (15 acres in the first phase and 8.2 acres in the second phase) at the rate of Rs 15,000 per acre in the year 1997 to the transport department for the construction of a bus stand.

According to rules, if the allotted land is not put into use within the next three years, it would again go back to the revenue department. Moreover, the clauses also included that the land should not be used for anything else other than the bus stand and without the permission of the revenue department it should not be utilised for other means.

But from the beginning all the norms have been violated, Revanna said. The permission to construct shops inside the bus stand has been given to one company. Moreover, the land has also been encroached and shops have been built. Revanna said it is a violation of agreement and stressed the agreement should be terminated immediately and the officials concerned should provide necessary clarification.

A letter would be written to the deputy commissioner in this regard, he said and also called for a struggle to ensure the property does not go into the hands of vested interests. “We are ready to face any legal problems also,’’ he said.
