Besides, activists of the district unit of the Dalit Sangharsha Samiti have also alleged that the officials are plotting to evict the dalits in the region.

They staged a dharna opposing the encroachment of the common grazing ground, in front of the deputy commissioner’s office here on Thursday.

“As per the government land the area was identified as the common grazing land till 1987. Later on, the land records have been forged and a duplicate record has been produced to sell the land to others,” the Dalit Sangharsha Samithi members alleged.

Hand-in-glove

The members further accused that the officials of the Revenue Department were working hand-in-glove with the land mafia.

“Action should be initiated against one Narayanaswamy who submitted the fake documents and harassed the dalits,” they insisted. Besides, they demanded that stringent action should be taken against the officials who colluded with the mafia. They said protection should be given to the dalits who have been cultivating in the common grazing ground and submitted Form Number 53.

On the occasion, they also demanded that those who allegedly attacked the dalits in Muduwadi Hosahalli should be immediately brought to book. The police officials who had associated themselves with the accused should be suspended, they said.

Harohalli Ravi, Vakkaleri Rajappa, Varadenahalli Venkatesh, Beeramanahalli Anjinappa, Vijayakumar, Srinivas, Ravi, Prabhu, Anand, Rajanna, Venkataswamy, Ramanjinappa and Venkataram and several other leaders of the Dalit Sangharsha Samithi took part in the protest.
