Jewellery heist worth Rs 2 crore in City

Rajesh (31) was descending the staircase of VBS Gold and Diamond Works, at No 81, R V Road, when the robbers suddenly entered the building and waylaid him from behind around 9.30 pm. In a flash, they smashed Rajesh’s head with the weapons, pushed the security guard, and fled with the bag. While Rajesh was rushed to a hospital, the security guard narrated the incident to the police.

In the wake of the Varamahalakshmi festival, orders were overflowing at the factory. The 40-odd workers had left the factory a while before the incident. Rajesh had packed the finished works in the bag and locked it to be safely kept in his house which is just two buildings away from the factory.

The  security guard described one of the robbers having a muscular physique.  Police suspect that two men, one of muscular physique and another with curly hair, who attempted to speak to a factory worker in Telugu when he was buying cigarettes nearby might be involved.

Sources, however, said Rajesh’s brother, who had issues with him, might be behind the incident.  In a daring raid, three miscreants, in their 20s, assaulted the owner of a jewellery manufacturing unit with machetes when he was leaving for home after work and snatched his bag containing gold and diamond ornaments worth Rs 2 crore, in Basavanagudi here on Wednesday night.
