St John's reign supreme

Midfielder Abu Suffigam and striker Joel scored a brace each as St John’s, playing at their own premises, ran a listless St Germain’s ragged in a completely lop-sided final.

Suffigam got St John’s to the best possible start, sounding the board as early as in the third minute, kick-starting the goal fest. Two minutes later, even before St Germain lads could come to grips with first blow, they were dealt another when Joel cashed in on some sloppy defending to put St John’s 2-0 ahead.

Not knowing what hit them, St Germain lads just collapsed and never recovered. With St John’s finding the target once again in the 10th minute, the writing was clearly on the wall, and all they could do was try and limit the damage.

Joel and Suffigam exchanged a series of passes from 35 yards before the latter released it to Joel, whose shot was stopped by goalkeeper Amogh SR. With the ball ricocheting into a crowded defensive area, Suffigham emerged clear to tap the ball home.

Although St Germain boys did show intent, they could not sustain it for long as St John’s quelled their attempts without a fuss.

Joel then wrapped a convincing win for his side with a fine solo effort on the stroke of half-time (20th minute). He dribbled the ball from midfield, beat four St Germain players before outfoxing custodian Amogh and slamming the ball home.

In the Tanvi Memorial tournament, Bishop Cotton Girls ‘A’ outclassed Bishop Cottons ‘B’ team 4-0 after a brace from Ruchitha in the 9th and 17th minutes of the match. Nila Prabhu (12th) and Venessa Hannah (22nd) struck a goal apiece as well to complete the demolition.
