'Never judge child's art'

Poojary opens South India-level kids art fest in City

The fest was inaugurated by veteran Congress leader B Janardhan Poojary who lauded the artists in general for their dedication and way of looking at the world around them.

“Artists like Raja Ravi Verma and M F Hussain have shown a different view of the world to us through their art,” said Poojary adding that every good work of any individual must be appreciated so as to give a boost to them to continue the good work.

Renowned artiste K P Shenoy said that the children’s art often catch the eyes and touch the hearts of the people because the children are unpolluted and innocent.

“Never judge the child’s art because judgements bring in competitive sense and this sense of competition will break the child’s connect with the art,” said Shenoy adding that child art is free from realism.

“The children move beyond the surreal and they have the capability to bring together the incompatible elements in their arts,” he said.

Drawing competition was held in five categories namely LKG to 1st std, 2nd std to 4th std, 5th std to 7th std, 8th std to 10th std and 11th std to 12th std. Some of the drawings of the children were displayed at the venue.

These drawings were mainly connected to nature, environment, social issues etc which showed the level of understanding of the issues and the art by the students.A J Medical College and Hospital Managing Director A J Shetty presided over the programme.

Honourary President of Makkala Kala Mela-2011 committee K Harikrishna Bantwal, ZP CEO Dr K N Vijaya Prakash among others were present.
