A road over stormwater bridge in Kolar has been a nightmare for the vehicle users and pedestrians over the past two years.

A huge pothole in the middle of the narrow road over Rajakluve has become a death trap for the vehicle users. The heavy vehicles have stopped plying on the road which has become unmotorable.

However, the autorickshaws and two-wheelers nudge for space while trying to avoid the pothole. The school children are exposed to risks due to congestion on the stretch that connects MB Road and Doddapet Circle with Toll Gate.

Several workshops, woodworks and quarters of the PWD are situated along the road which also connects to the Zilla Panchayat office.

Though a busy road, the City Municipal Council has not bothered to repair and asphalt the road. The residents hoped that the repair work would be taken after the work on drainage was over.

However, the CMC has dashed their hopes by not commencing the work even after several months. A stitch in time could have saved nine, as the adage goes, the condition of the road wouldn’t have deteriorated, had the CMC taken up regular maintenance.

Previously only a few stoneslabs were damaged. As the CMC didn’t immediately set it right, the a huge pothole appeared, diving the road into virtually two halves, said Veeranna, a resident.

The residents staged protest several times, demanding repair of the stretch, but all that the authorities could do was to pacify them promising to ‘look into the matter’. But no action has been taken so far.

Abdulla, another resident said, the road has now become unmotorable and if not repaired, it may collapse any time.

“Shalini, the new CMC commissioner has been very strict in collecting tax dues from the shop owners. We hope she will show similar determination in taking to steps to repair the stretch,” he added.
