World no 1 spot was Flower and Strauss' vision, says Anderson

A ruthless England mauled India by an innings and 242 runs in the third cricket Test at Edgbaston yesterday to not only take an unassailable 3-0 lead in the four-match series but also secure the title of world's best cricket team for the first time by toppling the visitors.
"One of the first things Andy Flower and Andrew Strauss did when they took over was to get the analysts to come up with a road map to No 1," said Anderson, who has now assumed the seventh spot in England's all-time highest wicket-takers list with 237 scalps.
"(Flower) got our analysts to set out a two-to-three-year road map of fixtures, tours and series to become world No 1 and showed us where we'd be if we won each one by a certain score," he was quoted as saying in the 'Daily Mail'.

Anderson, who himself has been one of the star performers with the ball in the ongoing series against India, hoped that the rise to the pinnacle of Test rankings is just the beginning of England's golden run.

"It is very satisfying to have achieved that. But now we've done it we need to re-assess. We don't want to settle for being No 1 in the world. Hopefully we can dominate for a while and become a great England team," he said.

"We want to dominate Test cricket for as long as possible. This is a great feeling and we want more of it," said Anderson, who was wrecker-in-chief in India's second innings at Edgbaston scalping the crucial wickets of Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir, Rahul Dravid and VVS Laxman.

"We will enjoy this win and what it means and it will take time to sink in. But then we have to get our focus back to playing the final Test at The Oval next week."
