Pondy CM announces new schemes

In his first Independence day address after coming to power dislodging the Congress in the April 13 Assembly elections, Rangasamy, also founder of All India NR Congress party, said a Rs 39.18 crore drinking water project for Yanam region will be soon implemented.
Under this scheme, water from the Dowleshwaram reservoir in neighbouring Andhra Pradesh will be brought to Yanam, an enclave of Puducherry in AP, he said while unfurling the tricolour.

Government has earmarked Rs 23 crore for providing financial aid under the 'Perunthalaivar Kamarajar Educational Assistance scheme' to students joining professional colleges in the Union Territory after being sponsored by Centralised Admission committee (CENTAC). A total of 5,413 students would be covered under this scheme, he said.

A special scheme, 'Dr Ambedkar Education Assistance' scheme, has also been formulated and scheduled caste students would be reimbursed fees they pay at professional colleges. Each of the SC students joining MCA course would be provided free laptops as per a proposal of the government, he said.

Listing the schemes related to various sectors, he said 13 tourism projects would be implemented with a total outlay of Rs 45.11 crore during this financial year.
