The 17th century Red Fort has been witness to India's freedom struggle and is the venue from where the prime minister hoists the tricolour and addresses the nation every year since independence in 1947. Unesco declared the fort a World Heritage Site in 2000.
Google has been commemorating India's Independence Day through its doodles since 2003. Usually it was a representation of the tri-colour that was, however, missing this time around.
For the first time this year, a Google doodle marked Pakistan's Independence Day Saturday with a green-coloured illustration, along with a crescent and stars and the letter 'I' in the form of Lahore's Minar-e-Pakistan or the National Tower of Pakistan.
