The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), which conducts the competitive entrance test, plans to conduct the online examination on  a mass scale.

In May, 2011, the examination was conducted online for the first time.

Held generally on the last Sunday of April, AIEEE is used by 30 National Institutes of Technology (NITs), five Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs), 13 other Central/State Government institutes, and 23 self-financed institutes, deemed universities, etc.

The examination, introduced in 2002, consists of two papers. Paper 1 has three sections – mathematics, physics, and chemistry. Paper 2, too, has three sections – mathematics, drawing, and aptitude.

Utter chaos

Utter chaos had prevailed at various centres across the country during this year’s examination on May 1, 2011 when the question paper was found to be leaked in Uttar Pradesh.

Consequently, examination in the morning session was delayed by three hours whereas students scheduled in the afternoon session had to write it at a later date.
