Hiroshi Takashina, Managing Director of Nikon India, said, "The natural scenic beauty of India, gives photographers ample opportunity to create such great pieces of art."

Debarshi (rpt) Debarshi Duttagupta said of the photograph 'Learning to Fly' shot at a ghat in Varanasi, "This was an experience of a lifetime, for which the true feeling cannot be expressed in words, although I have captured it through my camera."

The photograph captures a moment that conveys the story of a small fishing community through activities that have been repeated daily for generations.

"The key to this photo’s success is in its capturing that magically moment of beauty as evening slips into night. One might even sense a touch of sadness, as people the world over react in similar fashion to the nostalgic pangs experienced at sunset," said Hiromi Tsuchida, chief of judges at the Nikon photo contest.

The 33-year-old contest this year attracted 60,000 entries, the highest in its history, from over 23,000 applicants in 153 countries.

The photograph will now be showcased at exhibitions in Tokyo, Osaka and London later this year, a release by Nikon India said.
