Speaking to Deccan Herald, Lokayukta ADG Gaonkar said: “Lokayukta SP (2), who is in-charge of the City unit has registered an FIR against Yeddyurappa, his sons B Y Vijendra and B Y Raghavendra and son-in-law Sohan Kumar in connection with illegal mining.”

This is the first FIR filed in connection with the illegal mining scam after former Lokayukta Santosh Hegde submitted his report last month.

Yeddyurappa, who was forced to step down as the CM for his alleged involvement in the illegal mining scam, also faces allegations in a series of land scams. Just about two weeks ago, the Lokayukta City unit, following a court order, had filed an FIR against him for irregularities in the Upper Bhadra irrigation project.

The FIR has been registered under Section 154 of the Criminal Procedure Code and  is the first step for the police to begin investigation into the complaint.

Lokayukta police said the probe into charges that Yeddyurappa and his family members received bribes from companies involved in illegal mining has gathered more momentum and a thorough investigation and an appropriate action will follow the registration of the FIR.
Yeddyurappa, his two sons and son-in-law are charged with making Rs 30 crore from firms involved in illegal mining.

There are allegations that a donation of Rs 10 crore was paid by South West Mining Company to a trust run by Yeddyurappa’s family and also about a transaction of Rs 20 crore in the sale of land to a mining firm by them.

Governor H R Bharadwaj, after accepting Hegde’s report, had directed newly-appointed Lokayukta Shivraj Patil to investigate charges against Yeddyurappa and family.
