Sutradhar workshop

Sutradhar invites you to a 1-day workshop on ‘Hands-on Science for Preschoolers’ on August 27, 2011 from 9.30 am to 5.30 pm

Young children are inherently curious about the world. They explore the world through all their senses, and are filled with wonder at various phenomena – the waxing and waning of the moon, ants that march along, bubbles that float, stones that sink, flushes that suck things away…!

Preschoolers are capable of learning the fundamental principles of science – such as observation, understanding cause and effect, classifying, or watching things grow and change. These concepts need to be introduced in “hands on” and engaging ways, to draw out the little scientist in them!

The workshop will introduce participants to “hands-on” science activities that they can use with children in preschool, in order to explore the world around them.  About 25-30 different activities will be introduced, and participants will work on these in small groups.

Some of the themes would include kitchen science, natural science, air, magnetism, water. A hand out of activities will be provided. The facilitator: Sheelu Rao is the founder of the Center For Initiatives In Science and Environment Education (CISEE), Bangalore.
Participants: The workshop is open to teachers, teacher educators, field staff and caregivers working with children in the age group 4-6 years. The medium of communication will be English. Sheelu can translate into Kannada if required.

Venue: Akshara Montessori, 15 Thamarai Kannan Road, Lane opposite Adarsh theatre, Murphy Town, Ulsoor.  For details, call Sutradhar at 25288545, 25215191.

CCE workshop
According to the CBSE Board, CCE aims to provide learners with the knowledge, skills and attitudes that enable them to recognise and solve problems in their domain of study and work.  It is a competence-based assessment system wherein the learner demonstrates his/her level of attainment in a subject area.

However, most teachers of CBSE schools are still grappling with the whole idea of CCE and are using the system based on their incomplete understanding and interpretation of CCE.

The Teacher Foundation has put together a three-day workshop to help teachers conduct CCE in a non-threatening environment. This workshop will equip teachers with the skills to conduct CCE in the true spirit of enabling a holistic learning experience for their learners. Case studies will be used to explain concepts.

The three days will also look at practice activities to teach and assess life-skills, attitudes and values. The workshops are being conducted on September 2, 3 and 4, 2011.  For details contact: The Teacher Foundation: 080- 41231149, 41131930, 7259691293, 9980113302.
