BJP plans nationwide stir on Aug 17

Last Updated 08 August 2009, 17:14 IST

The party will hold demonstrations in all district headquarters and state capitals across the country on the day.

BJP senior leader M Venkaiah Naidu, addressing the meidapersons here on Saturday said that middle class and below middle class families were finding it hard to meet the ends as the prices of essential commodities including tur dal, sugar, wheat, cooking oil, pulses and even that of salt have sky-rocketed. Apart from this, the fiscal condition of the country is also not stable.

“Fiscal deficit stands at 6.8 pc and the government is borrowing over Rs 4.24 lakh crores to fund the programmes announced. Congress leader Siddaramaiah should look at the financial position of Union government instead of pointing his fingers at the BJP government in the State”, he said.

Lok Sabha member Ananth Kumar said, the honeymoon of the UPA, which came to power only two months ago, was on the rocks.

The government has lost its sheen with the exposure of  many scams including rice scam, iron scrap scam of Rs 1,267 crore and misappropriation in purchase of vaccine in Health Department in the monsoon session in Parliament, he said.
