'Ruling establishments favour elite class'

While the advertisements and public campaigns sponsored by the State favour the dalits and poor, the release of funds and the programmes later, favour those in power, the minister said while speaking after laying foundation stone for various development programmes here on Saturday.

Questioning the rationale of allotting sites to legislators, the minister wondered whether the present day legislators can’t afford a site. People subjected to exploitation and deprived of all basic necessities reside in slums. Attempts should be made to see that slums do not exist in future. Programmes should be formulated in this direction, the minister opined.

Doddaballapur legislator and chairman of Slum Eradication Board, speaking on the occasion said that slums usually come up over government lands. He disclosed that out of the 16 slums in the City 800 houses will be constructed in nine, at a cost of Rs 19.50 crore. Each house will cost Rs 1.35 lakh and State, Union governments share the cost 50 pc each. The beneficiaries of Scheduled categories should pay 10 pc contribution while the rest will have to pay 12 pc, he disclosed.

Legislator Dr M C Sudhakar, Taluk Panchayat president Manjunath and others were present.
