Aasare houses will be completed by Sept 15: CM

Speaking to the media after inaugurating the housing quarters for High Court judges on Wednesday, he said efforts were being made to complete the construction of all houses as quickly as possible.

The houses are being constructed for the victims in North Karnataka whose houses were destroyed and villages ravaged in the floods of 2009.

“I have directed the officials that the construction of houses and the registration should be completed as early as possible.

Even the inauguration should be completed in the presence of a local representative and they need not wait for anyone to arrive from here,” he clarified.

He said officials have been asked to take steps to ensure that the Koyna river which is in spate does not cause flooding in the area. The chief minister denied that there was shortage of fetilisers. However, he said, the supply had been mildly affected by the non-availability of  rakes to transport the fertilisers from Kakinada to Karnataka.

“There is no problem with distribution and supply, we are realigning supply if there is a problem in a particular area,” he said. Earlier, the chief minister inaugurated housing quarters for High Court judges in Hebbal in the presence of Supreme Court Judge Justice H L Dattu and High Court Chief Justice J S Khehar. He said 15 houses would be constructed in Phase 1. Six houses would be handed over on December 8 and the rest would be completed in a few months.

“It is our responsibility to provide housing to judges and see to it that they are not hindered by problems related to housing,” Gowda said. The quarters have come about as a result of the efforts of the present Chief Justice J S Khehar who had insisted that the State expedite the process of construction of the housing quarters.

Ironically, Chief Justice Khehar himself will not be able to occupy the new quarters, as he will be elevated to the Supreme Court before October and will be moving to Delhi. The quarters are being constructed at a cost of Rs 50 crore.
