Firms pulled up for faulty service


He fell down during his work and had a long hospital stay for treatment of severe injuries. The firms refused to pay up the money on unfair grounds.

Chocolates go missing

P P Bopanna waited in vain to receive the black chocolates sent by his friend through Franchise Express Courier Services on Brigade road.

When Bopanna went to enquire with the Courier  service he found that the German chocolates (needed for his cardiac problems) were sent to someone else. The courier service refused to pay up for their mistake.

The II Forum has ordered them to pay up Rs 800 along with costs to Bopanna.

Defective sofa set

S Mohan bought a dining table and six chairs from Smart Furnitures on Infantry Road and they told him that the set would be free of defects for the next five years.

But on the day it arrived at his house he found a crack on the table and the ornamental glass on it was awry. The man who brought the furniture from the shop was unable to fit it properly.

The shop then washed its hands off the matter and he complained to this forum which has ordered the shop to give him a defect free table or take back the consignment and return Rs 18,200 along with Rs 2,000 as costs to Mohan.

Not guilty

The III Additional consumer forum has found a bakery not guilty of deficient service and has dismissed a complaint made against it by a consumer aggrieved at having to pay Rs 30 extra.

The consumer Lavakumar had ordered a cake from Sweet Chariot in Cunningham Road and had paid an advance of Rs 200. He had to pay the remaining Rs 525 when he collected the cake. The shop asked him to also pay up Rs 30 as refundable amount for the cardboard box  on which the cake was placed. He complained to this forum claiming that Sweet Chariot was guilty of unfair trade practice.

But the shop was able to prove that the extra amount had been mentioned on the bill to the consumer. The III Forum Srivatsa Kedilaya concurred and dismissed the complaint.
