Freedom fighters' demands

The annual informal event takes place a few days before the Independence Day celebrations.

According to officials, invitations were sent to about 1,000 freedom fighters across the State, out of which 800 reside in the city. H O Sreenivasaiah, president of Gandhi Bhavan was also present at the event.

Arsikere Taluk Freedom Fighters Association submitted a memorandum to the Governor.

Some of the points mentioned were to increase the pension amount from Rs 3,000 per month to Rs 6,000. Another issue they raised was, increasing the money given for funeral rites of freedom fighters from Rs 1,000 to Rs 5,000.

The Governor assured to take a look at their requests. “Whatever can be done from my side, I will do. Your requests should be received by the Government. In fact, the funeral of freedom fighters should be given state honour,” he said.
