'Encourage students to study chemistry with curiosity'

Delivering the keynote address at the symposium organised by St Agnes College along with Pilikula Regional Science Centre and Text Book Society, DSERT, he pointed out that women chemists in India are less than 10 per cent. He suggested the style of teaching method to be changed.

He said experiments done in labs are quite below average, and teachers need to work on introducing more experiments to encourage students to study the subject with curiosity.

He also noted that longevity in India has increased remarkably since the 1930s only because of better medication where chemistry played a major role.

St Agnes College Principal Dr Sr Prem D’Souza presided over the programme and honoured Chemistry Teachers Professor Shivaram Holla, Professor V S Lasrado, Professor Mohan Shetty, Professor B N Bhat and Vasanthi K for their excellent service in teaching chemistry to the students.

She stressed that the symposium should change the mindset of the students and others about chemistry and added it is not possible to want technology without learning Chemistry as a basic subject.
