Potholes galore on NH-66 in Kundapur

Last Updated 05 September 2011, 15:51 IST

However, the distance between Kundapur to Mullikatte in Hemmadi is just nine kilometres. But, it takes nearly one hour to reach the distance. Don’t attribute the reason for traffic jam.

Thanks to the National Highway authorities for neglecting NH-66 stretch in the taluk. With the commencement of rain, the condition of the road has been deplorable for the last six to seven years.

Whenever the road gets damaged, the authorities were pointing fingers at the iron laden lorries. However, this year they can not blame the iron ladden lorries as no lorries ply on the road.

Those who travel on the strech daily need to consult a physiotherapist. One need to search for a road from Hotel Hariprasad to Market yard as the road is filled with potholes.

With the four-laning of the road under progress, the water filled potholes result in splashing of water on two-wheeler riders.

The condition of road from Sangam to Thallur is so deplorable that the road users curse the authorities concerned daily. The vehicle users are not able to avoid any potholes on the stretch. The National Highway is among the many hurdles that motorists have to keep an eye while passing this stretch. When former ZP President S Raju Poojary took the officials to task at the Taluk Panchayat meeting recently, the highway authorities just levelled the road using JCB. On the other hand, the ‘skeleton’ of many minor bridges  are seen as the iron rods have come up.

When the newspaper reports on the condition of the road, the authorities temporarily fill the road using the crusher powder or soil.

“We have to spend money on repairing our vehicles. Its unfortunate that the officials and the elected representatives are not able to see the condition of the road,” rues Raghavendra Achar, a college lecturer.
