Low turnout of students at govt schools worrisome, says Muniyappa

Participating in the Teachers’ Day celebration organised at the Balaji Kalyana Mantapa near Varadanayakanahalli gate, he said: “We need to brain storm on bringing children back to schools.”

The legislator redefined the significance of Teachers’ Day saying it should now focus on addressing the problems in the field of education. “Teachers build the foundation of society. It is the most respected and responsible profession and no child must be denied education.”

Retired lecturer C Yathiraju called upon teachers to adapt themselves to the new methods of teaching that included the use of information technology and multimedia. “We have come a long way from the traditional methods of teaching and teachers must be attuned to this,” he said.

Twenty retired primary and high school teachers were felicitated at the programme. H V Venkata Reddy, the teacher from Varadanayakanahalli Primary School who won the best teacher award in the district, was felicitated by the Kannada Sahitya Parishat.

Chikkaballapur

Education is the only panacea to address various problems that the country is suffering from, observed District In-charge Minister A Narayanswamy.

Addressing a gathering here on the occasion of Teachers’ Day at the Vokkaligara Bhavan on Monday, he lamented at the fact that illiteracy has been the main cause for the country’s poor show in various sectors. He called upon the teachers to mould students to build a progressive nation. Students were urged to read beyond textbooks and contribute to the society’s growth in their own way.

Member of Legislative Assembly, K P Bachegowda urged the teachers to tap talent in students and guide them in the right path.

On the occasion, teachers of primary and higher primary schools of various taluks were felicitated for their service.

Zilla Panchayat president Chinnappaiah, Vice-president B Savithramma, Deputy Commissioner N Manjula,  ZP Chief Executive Officer B S Shekharappa were present.

A unique dais on Teachers’ Day

A rare picture of Dr S Radhakrishnan without his traditional ‘pete’ was displayed on the dais. Dr Radhakrishnan’s portrait was surrounded by faces of smiling children and a welcome message for teachers.

The inaugural lamp was decorated with flowers around it arranged in the shape of a heart and with eyes within it. Devaraj, a teacher from Marihalli, said the decoration symbolised their message for teachers: “A teacher must open the eyes in his heart and spread knowledge among children.”
