JOIN USAmar joins Raja, Kalmadi in Tihar
Misfortune has befallen Singh at a time when the Tihar Jail acorded a hero-like welcome and exit of anti-graft crusader Anna Hazare, whom Singh wanted to denigrate by attacking his close associates Shanti Bhushan and Prashant Bhushan.
Unlike his other inmates, the high profile Rajya Sabha MP is in very weak health to take things easy. He has both kidneys transplanted and needs good medical care.
The shock and physical strain was all visible on his face when he was being removed to Tihar.This year, Tihar Jail had a stream of VIP inmates. Former telecommunication minister A Raja was sent to Tihar for his alleged link to the 2G allocation scam in February.
DMK MP Kanimozhi was brought here on May 20. Former Commonwealth Games chief Suresh Kalmadi was brought here on April 25.
Although Amar Singh may have some comfort in finding these High profile companions, he will certainly have some feeling of loneliness because others have their aides lodged in the same prison complex.
A Raja has former telecom secretary Siddhartha Behura and former aide R K Chandolia with him to face similar charges. DMK MP Kanimozhi has Kalaignar TV chief Sharad Kumar with him.
Among the business honchos spending time in Tihar for alleged involvement in the 2G scam are: Swan Telecom’s Shahid Usman Balwa and Vinod Goenka, Unitech Wireless’ Sanjay Chandra, Cineyug Film’s Karim Morani, directors of Kusegaon Fruits and Vegetables Pvt Ltd Asif Balwa and Rajeev B Agarwal.
Three officials of the Anil Ambani Group - Gautam Doshi, Hari Nair and Surendra Pipara – are also there for their alleged involvement in the 2G scam.
Kalmadi has his colleagues Lalit Bhanot, V K Verma and A S V Prasad and former government official Surjeet Lal with him. He is the sixth MP to be lodged inside Tihar after Rajya Sabha MP Kanimozhi, former telecom minister A Raja, sacked CWG OC chairman Suresh Kalmadi, former Jharkhand chief minister Madhu Koda and former Madhepura MP Pappu Yadav.
All of these tainted politicians, bureaucrats and business tycoons now eat the same food served to murderers, rapists and criminals.
However, Amar Singh’s serious illness may ensure some special facilities for him.
