Acid sale bar - to foil attacks on women

Minister of State for Home Affairs Jitendra Singh told the Lok Sabha that the chemicals and fertilizers ministry had, however, said that there could be no statutory control over acid distribution.

The minister added that a new section had been inserted in the criminal procedure code to provide for compensation to victims of acid attack.

"State governments have been directed to formulate a Victim Compensation Scheme."
