Nalini moved back to Vellore prison

Officials decline to provide details on the order

This puts her closer to the three men convicted to death in the same case—her husband Murugan, Perarivalan and Santhan who have been languishing in the Vellore Central Prison for more than 20 years.

After President Pratibha Patil refused to commute their death sentence to life, the three men were to be hanged on September 9.

But an eight-week stay by the Madras High Court on carrying out the sentence is now keeping the noose away from them.

Nalini, whose death sentence was commuted to life, was brought to Puzhal from the special prison for women in Vellore sometime back on security grounds, where she was secretly met by Priyanka Gandhi.

Soon after the mercy petition by Murugan and the other two was rejected by the President in August, Nalini had requested the authorities to shift her back to Vellore women’s prison which would enable her to speak to her husband as often as possible.

Confirming that Nalini had reached the Vellore prison, officials declined to provide details on the permission order.

Sources said she would however be allowed to meet her husband within the Jail Manual rules, until the Madras High Court delivers its final verdict on the petition against the death sentence.
