Justice Kapadia, who visited the blast site outside the High Court gate, briefly adjourned the proceedings in the morning to take stock of the situation.

Later, after the hearing in the Novartis Vs Union of India matter resumed, the Chief Justice elicited views of Solicitor General Rohington Nariman and senior counsel Abhishek Manu Singhvi on improving the security apparatus in the apex court.

Rohington said that security ought to be strengthened and suggested that biometric system of regulating the entry of visitors and foolproof screening system should be installed to prevent recurrence of such incidents. Singhvi told the Chief Justice that security for the Supreme Court and high court can be developed on the pattern currently in vogue at Parliament. He pointed out that entry to Parliament is regulated in such a manner that not only individuals, but even the vehicles, their numbers and other details are minutely recorded through CCTVs and other surveillance methods.
