Indians have a field day at Asian meet

Aaron clocked one minute 52.74 seconds to clinch the gold in the 200M freestyle event for Group B boys (15-17 years). The 17-year-old erased the previous mark of 1:54.14 stood for two years in the name Kazakhistan’s Rabota Oleb.

Aaron’s state-mate Gagan A P, who timed 8:26.43 in the 800 free (Group B), also broke championship record. Aaron also went under the record time of 8:30.43 set by Sheng Chieh Tang of Taipei in 2005 to clinch bronze with a time of 8:29.09.

Virdhawal touched the tape in 52.77 seconds in the 100M butterfly event (Group A, 18 & above). Kohlapur lad broke the existing time of 54.17 created in 2007 by Khudiyey Rustam of Kazhakistan. Sandeep Sejwal won the silver in the 50 breaststroke with a time of 27.84.

It was a disappointing day for Rehan Poncha who could only finish fourth in the 400 free (4:01.83) event for Group A boys. Poncha was sixth in the 200 backstroke (2:09.70).

Among other medal winners for India were Richa Mishra (400 free, Group B, 4:31.85). Indian 4x100 relay quartet of Poncha, Sejwal, J Agnishwar and Khade won bronze in 3:30.56.

In the women’s water polo event, India defeated Indonesia 9-2 to claim bronze medal.

Hrutika Shiram finished third in the 3-meter spring board diving event for Group A girls’ with 179 points.
