Cabinet for verification of land sought by CRPF

Land is close to where Mahadayi project will come up
Last Updated 08 September 2011, 18:16 IST

It has directed the Home department to verify whether the Central Force really requires so much land.

The Cabinet was of the view that 408.31 acres of land was too much, for setting up the training school.

Even if the CRPF wants to have a firing range at the school, about 200 acres would be more than sufficient.

The Home department should, therefore, crosscheck the actual requirement of land, sources said.

The Cabinet directed the Director General and Inspector General of Police to hold talks with the CRPF in this regard. However, if the CRPF cites reasons, then the Cabinet will hand over the entire land, sources added. Briefing mediapersons after the Cabinet meeting, Higher Education Minister V S Acharya said the Cabinet has decided to verify whether the Government has sufficient land to implement the Mahadayi drinking water project, before handing over 408 acres of land required for the training school.

The land, identified by the CRPF, is close to where the Mahadayi project will come up. “Hence, we want to verify whether the Water Resources department required any part of land from the 408 acres, for the Mahadayi project. Suitable decision will be taken on this proposal in the next Cabinet meeting," he said.

The land is proposed to be handed over to the CRPF, free of cost. The Central Force will, in turn, train the personnel of the proposed Karnataka Industrial Security Force, he added.

Nod for Security Council

The Cabinet accorded administrative approval for setting up the State Security Council and Police Complaints Authority in the State.

The Security Council will be headed by the Chief Minister, and it will review the security of the State every month, Acharya said.

The Cabinet also decided to extend the one-time settlement scheme to those who
availed loan up to Rs 10 lakh, from the Karnataka State Finance Corporation till March 31, 2012.

Under the scheme, interest amount will be waived of. While the Government will bear the cost of simple interest,  the KSFC will bear the compound interest and penalty over the loan amount, Acharya said.
