Informed of the accident, Azhar who was in London rushed to Hyderabad. He and his family members, including his first wife Naureen and second wife Sangeeta Bijlani, are camping in the hospital.

Close relatives say that Azhar is devastated as he is very close to his younger son as Ayaz’s style of playing cricket resembles that of his father. “His mannerisms at the crease remind us of his father, particularly the cover drive,” a senior cricketer said.

Dr Hariprasad, heading the multi specialty team treating Ayaz, on Monday evening told the press that the youngster’s left kidney had failed. There is bleeding still in the left liver and left lung and the patient had injuries at two points on his hips and three locations on his spine. he said.

Dr Hariprasad said 80 units of blood have been pumped into Ayazuddin on whom the team conducted the first successful operation this afternoon. “He was brought here in coma and continues to be in the same state even now,“ he added.

A health bulletin released by Apollo hospitals on Monday morning said Ayazuddin was in a “very critical” condition and on a ventilator. “He has multi-organ failure and is being supported with medication and other treatment to maintain his vital functions. The prognosis and outcome are guarded due to the severity of the injury and continued instability."

However, sources in the hospital say that the young cricketer, who is in the ICU, has severely broken bones and both his kidneys have stopped functioning but the efforts are on to revive them. The special surgical team has performed atherectomy to remove blood clots in his lungs on Sunday.

Hariprasad told TV channels  late evening that fresh neurological assessments are being performed to assess his brain condition, which could be a major concern. It is suspected that there may be a significant brain dysfunction due to anoxia during the period in which the patient was in a collapsed stage, which can be confirmed after serial neurological tests.  “Right now we are conducting  the neurological tests,” he said.

In a joint statement Khaleeq-ur-Rehman and  Mohammed Azharuddin denied reports of  any police complaint filed against Ayaazuddin by Khaleeq-ur-Rehman (the father of late Ajmal-ur-Rehman) and requested the media not to fall prey to any such false rumours.
The accident occurred near Puppalguda on Outer Ring Road when the 1000-cc sports bike Ayazuddin was riding skidded and crashed, killing 16-year-old Ajmal-ur-Rehman, his cousin.
