Injured Broad to miss England's tour of India

Last Updated 12 September 2011, 16:13 IST

“Stuart Broad will miss the final ODI against India (in Cardiff) and the Twenty20 series against West Indies as well as the ODI leg of the India tour with a muscle tear within his right shoulder,” read a release from the England and Wales Cricket Board on Monday.

The 25-year-old, however, may be fit to join the squad for the T20 match scheduled on October 29 in Kolkata, added the release.

“Stuart has a muscle tear within his shoulder and will require an initial period of rest and rehabilitation. Exact timescales will be determined in due course but he is likely to be ruled out of cricket for a number of weeks,” said ECB chief medical officer Nick Peirce.

It has been an injury-hit last 10 months for Broad, who was ruled out of the final three Ashes Tests last winter due to stomach strain, before picking up a rib injury during the World Cup that forced him to return home.

With Eoin Morgan, England’s T20 vice-captain, too ruled out due to a shoulder injury there is no obvious replacement for Broad as captain.
