BMTC makes road at NR Colony one-way

Last Updated 12 September 2011, 19:29 IST

A few days after the accident took place, Deccan Herald had reported how the narrow roads were unfit for plying even a single bus let alone two.

With the width of a bus around 10 feet, it was obvious that BMTC had to find an alternative route for such stretches. However, a BMTC official had said: “It is the traffic police who should take an initiative and make these roads one-way. We cannot do much.”

But on Monday, 10 days after the Deccan Herald report, M P Prabhudas, Chief Traffic Manager (Operations), said: “We took the initiative ourselves. We spoke to the local MLA, corporator and decided to make the road one-way only for BMTC buses.”

Buses heading towards Yediyur must now take the Nagasandra Circle route. However, buses plying towards Thyagarajnagar and surrounding areas are allowed to use the narrow roads.

While the action comes too late for Jaya and Mamatha, who were killed in the accident, it is appreciable as thousands continue to walk on the narrow stretches in N R Colony.
