Starting her musical journey

The beautiful Evelyn Sharma has turned singer with ‘Something Beautiful’, a melodious and soulful song for which she collaborated with Brooklyn Shanti, an Indo-American producer in New York.

Not only has Evelyn lent her voice to this number, but also penned its lyrics. ‘Something Beautiful’ is a reflection of a time when she did not feel good about herself and decided to write her feelings down.

“It was really exciting. It was something that I didn’t expect. I met Brooklyn during the promotion of my first movie ‘From Sydney With Love’. We got to know each other then itself and he had told me that only that I should try singing as I have a nice voice. But even then, when this opportunity came about, I was hesitant because I had never sung before,” she tells Metrolife.  

But the actress has always been writing songs. “I wrote ‘Something Beautiful’ at a time when my life wasn’t too good. Sharing my experience was like a therapy,” she notes. Evelyn admits that over the last few years, she was juggling with so many projects that there was no time for music. “I did movies like Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani and Main Tera Hero. I had too many movie offers. So I calmed down a little and decided to focus on singing,” she informs.

Ask her if it’s challenging to balance singing and acting and she says, “You always have a breather of a month or so between each movie. That time you can focus on other things.” She adds, “In the olden days, every actor had to learn singing. And actresses had to learn traditional dances. But nowadays, acting is one thing and singing is another.” So will she be the next Priyanka Chopra? She laughs, “I will be the first Evelyn Sharma!” 

Her musical inspirations are Mariah Carey and Lana Del Ray. “Mariah Carey sings songs based on her own life. She doesn’t care what people think!” In Bollywood, she thinks Ayushmann Khurrana is very talented. “It’s one thing to sing your own composition and another to take someone else’s song and sing,” she explains.

The song is releasing on August 13 and Evelyn has been promoting it in the US. “I will be promoting it here as well soon,” she explains. On the film front, she is currently working on Dannk, Bhaiyyaji Superhit (with Sunny Deol and Arshad Warsi) and another project, which she says is too early to talk about.
