An university to preserve Vishwakarma skills mooted

Hosts of dignitaries attend; sabha demands govt to celebrate jayanti, holiday

He was speaking after inaugurating the third state-level jayantotsava of Vishwakarma organised by Akhila Karnataka Vishwakarma Mahasabha in the city. Drawing an analogy, he said a Vishwakarma has inbuilt knowledge of judging the quality of a product at the blink of an eye, when compared to educated lot who bank on a laboratory report. In this wake, a dedicated university and academy to preserve and protect the skill is needed. He also promised to extend financial support from MP local area development fund.

Launching a website of the community, AICC general secretary Madhusudhan Mistry, who is also Karnataka in-charge said if there are any evidences to ascertain India’s history, the credit goes to Vishwakarma, for creating pots, jewellery and several other articles in the past. He stressed for development of the community as a vote bank. Eulogising, he said that they are also secular involving themselves in building church, temple, masjid, palace, etc. However, not many are leading a secured life with both social and political security still eluding them. They are among the neglected lot in most of the banks when it comes to seeking loan facility.
He advised K P Nanjundi who is in the lead of the mahasabha to organise the community in every state and also at national level.

In his address Nanjundi demanded the government to celebrate Vishwakarma Jayanti, besides declaring September 17 as a holiday for the day. However, he was miffed at chief minister D V Sadananda Gowda giving the programme a miss. The CM was scheduled to inaugurate the programme. Enraged, Nanjundi termed the absence of chief minister as an insult to the community and also warned of taking to streets as the government is yet to fulfil their demands.

KPCC chief Dr G Parameshwara said a technological institute for the community is the need of the hour.

Former prime minister H D Deve Gowda presided. MPs H Vishwanath and R Dhruvanarayan, former minister D K Shivakumar, MLAs V Sreenivas Prasad and H S Shankarlinge Gowda, MLC Siddaraju, mayor Pushpalatha Chikkanna and others were present.

Helicopter showers petals
Unlike rallies held in the past, the city of palace was witness to the grandeur of celebrations, with flower petals showered from helicopter.

No sooner the mammoth procession of Vishwakarma community members arrived at the north gate of Mysore palace, flower petals were showered from the helicopter hovering on the top, garnering the attention of many.

The rally had been organised by Vishwakarma Mahasabha as part of third state-level jayantotsava, with 29 tableaux and an idol of Vishwakarma weighing over 200 kg adding colour to the event.

Caparisoned elephants on either side of the huge mantapa carrying the idol, and cultural troupes reminded ‘Jamboo Savari’ of Dasara that’s a few days away. Fire crackers were also burst at several places.
