'Report on officers named in mining scam in 10 days'

Disclosing this to mediapersons on Saturday, Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda said the voluminous report submitted by the Lokayukta on the mining scam was being looked into by the additional chief secretary.

“We are not sitting quiet after the Lokayukta submitted his findings. We will take action against the officials indicted by the Lokayukta, after getting a report from the additional chief secretary,’’ Gowda said.

The chief minister, who was here to take part in the Hyderabad-Karnataka Liberation Day celebrations, announced immediate release of Rs 50 lakh for the committee constituted under the chairmanship of veteran poet Dr Vasant Kushtagi to draft the H-K liberation history and said the government intends to include the history of the struggle for liberation of the erstwhile Nizam’s State in school curriculum.

Replying to a question on the hike in petrol prices by the Centre, the chief minister ruled out the possibility of the State reducing tax on petrol to lessen the burden of the hike.

“I have already written to the Centre asking it to rollback the hike. After getting the reply, we will think of reducing the tax levied by the State on petrol,” Gowda explained.
