Mahindra Satyam opens research centre in Canada

The Smart Grid Research and Innovation Center (RIC) on the University of Waterloo Campus in Ontario, Canada, will provide students, teachers and IT professionals the tools to foster and evaluate innovative developments of next generation smart grid technology, the company said.

The centre development is part of an ongoing strategic memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Mahindra Satyam and the University of Waterloo, a company release said here.

Mahindra Satyam said it is eager to work with the university as it takes a leadership role in the academic and technology communities by investing in smart grid initiatives and technologies.

"The Center will showcase the benefits of the ongoing smart grid technological revolution and will allow students, faculty and industry professionals to conduct cutting edge research with real world implications," Arvind Malhotra, Senior Vice-President, Mahindra Satyam, said in the release.

The RIC, in collaboration with the university's Institute for Sustainable Energy (WISE), will draw upon the collective expertise of its faculty members from areas like mathematics, chemistry, mechanical, computer, electrical and systems engineering, it said.

The Indian software firm, through its sister company, Tech Mahindra, established an Innovation Center for Mobility Solutions in Toronto, Ontario in June 2011.
