CBI probe sought into Belekeri ore theft

S R Hiremath of the SPS told mediapersons on Monday that Chief Secretary S V Ranganath had submitted an affidavit to the Supreme Court on April 20 stating that action would be taken against government officers involved in illegal mining scandal, but the status of action taken was not yet known.

The investigation into the case of ore theft at Belekeri port was going on at a snail’s pace, and this case should be handed over to the CBI. The CBI inquiry should be court-monitored, as the Union Government could influence the agency.

The CEC has also been requested to complete the investigations regarding ore raising contracts, alleged tax evasion, sanction of ore transport permission to entities with expired mining licences, and other issues, he said.

The letter dated September 14 also urged the CEC to ask the State government to take suitable action based on the Lokayukta report on illegal mining in the State.

Hiremath also stated that action should be taken against G Somashekhar Reddy for his alleged role in illegal mining at Ramgad area in Sandur taluk of Bellary district.
