Villagers seek action against brewing of illicit liquor

The protestors carried out a procession from Handaguli Colony to Mutthigepura village in Belur Road and shouted slogans against the liquor manufacturing units. “The Colony has maximum number of daily wage workers. The women of these houses work throughout the week and earn their livelihood, which is wasted by the men for purchasing liquor. A daily wage labourer, Puttaiah died on Friday after consuming illicit liquor. We do not want the liquor to take lives of few more, hence the manufactur should be banned,” she said.TP President Ranjan Ajith Kumar addressed the gathering and assured the villagers of taking appropriate action. He immediately called the Excise Department officer over the phone and directed him to stop illicit liquor manufacture and sale in the village. He also insisted them to arrest those who are involved in the sale.
