Farmers seize trucks carrying sand

Farmers Nagaraju, Mantaiah, Ramesh, Muthaiah, Mariyaiah and Maddaiah have lodged a complaint in this regard.

Police said that the five lorries after illegally mining the sand on the banks of River Cauvery were passing through the fields to avoid the risk of raid by the officers of Revenue department.

The Revenue department officers had of late started seizing lorries illegally transporting sand.

Two youths Satish, a resident to Dyavapatna and Mahesh, a resident of Hosahalli were guiding the drivers through the fields near Hosahalli to avoid the roads.A group of farmers, who were in the fields to guard their standing crops from pigs, stopped the lorries as they would destroy the crops.

However, the duo along with six others threatened the farmers. But as more farmers joined in and protested in unison, five lorry drivers fled. The group nabbed the duo and handed them over to police.
