41 lorries seized for illegal sand transport

In a raid conducted by a team led by Deputy Commissioner P C Jaffer, 17 lorries from B Hosur in Maddur taluk and from T B Cross in Maddur town were seized.

Though sand transportation from the banks of River Shimsha is banned, it is still rampant in the region.

Though the drivers of all the lorries fled during the raid, the team was successful in arresting the 12 people who allegedly informed drivers about the movements of the police. Two cars and four two-wheelers have been seized from the suspects.

The raids were carried out between 11 pm on Friday and 4 am on Saturday.

The team comprised Assistant Commissioner Rangappa, Tahsildar Nagaraju, Revenue Inspector Dyavarasegowda, Village Accountants Kenchegowda, Poornachandra, Sub-inspector Mahesh and other staff.

Malavalli

In a raid carried out by a team led by Tahsildar B Vani and comprising the revenue officer, 24 lorries and two tractors which were illegally transporting sand from the banks of River Cauvery in the taluk were seized.

The lorries were on their way to Bangalore through interior roads.

The lorries were seized at Poorigali, Belakavadi, Raavani, Saragur and Kanakapura Road in the town.

Despite frequent raids being conducted, illegal sand transport thrives in the taluk. The raid team comprised Public Works Department Assistant Engineer Raju, revenue inspectors and other staff.
